|BIOGRAPHY, RONALD CHAPLAN, MD
Dr. Ronald N. Chaplan has specialized in Orthopedics for more than 24
years in Monterey, California. He is proficient in all areas, but specializes in minimally invasive joint
replacement surgery and arthroscopic surgery of the ankle, knee and shoulder.
Dr. Chaplan earned a Bachelor of Arts in Bacteriology at the University of
California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and attended medical school at the University of California, San Francisco, where he
earned his medical degree in 1975.
Dr. Chaplan continued his education with a general surgical internship and
first year residency at the University of Colorado, followed by an orthopedic residency and chief
residency at the Harvard Combined Orthopedic program from 1977-1981. While in Boston, he was the first
Orthopedic Chief Resident of the Combined Brigham & Women’s Hospital.
Dr. Chaplan was board certified in 1982, and is a member of the American
Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons. He is a past board member of
the Monterey County Medical Society and past chairman of the Mediation Committee. He was also a past board
member of the Arthritis Foundation.
Dr. Chaplan has shared his knowledge and skills at local, regional and
national conventions and conferences, including the esteemed California Medical Association Conferences.
Guest speaking appearances include the Arthritis Foundation and the Community
Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula Grand Rounds and Knowledge Is Power Lecture Series.
The focus of his medical practice has been dedicated to caring for problems
associated with the musculoskeletal system, excluding the spine. His focus of interest is joint
replacement surgery and arthroscopic surgery of the ankle, knee, hip and shoulder.
His patients include children, adults, professional athletes, and weekend
warriors. During his medical training, he has worked with leading knee and hip replacement surgeons, and
has been at the forefront of performing minimally invasive joint replacement surgery.
Dr. Chaplan continues to provide his patients with the expertise and
technologically advanced procedures that may dramatically reduce complications, pain and recovery time.
